Fiery Tempers and Flaming Ignorance

Harry Reid is an ignoramus.  His latest verbal foot-in-mouth moment, that the current wildfires are caused by global warming, demonstrates that he has very little understanding of the climate here in California. Santa Ana winds + other factors (arsonists, arcing power lines, and construction equipment) usually equals fire. Having grown up in Southern California, I  can remember fires at this time of year almost every year, even before global warming was invented.  The fire in Malibu was apparently started by arcing power lines, the fire in Orange County was allegedly started by an arsonist in three places, and one of the fires in Santa Clarita was apparently started by construction equipment.  At this writing, none have been alleged by officials (official officials who deal with facts, that is, not Harry Reid) to have been started by "global warming". We had a day in August that was 113 degrees, but no fire. hhmmmmmm.

Next, the "fiery temper"  award goes to Orange County Fire Chief Chip Prather, who says the state is unprepared; http://www.dailynews.com/breakingnews/ci_7262465 (sorry, having trouble with the hyperlink tool) for these fires. As I write this, Orange County has lost maybe twenty structures. That's it, twenty! In San Bernardino County they have lost hundreds of homes, and in San Diego County over a thousand homes have been lost. Sorry, Chip, but the O.C. has been pretty darn fortunate this time around. Resources are stretched really thin all across the state.  Everywhere.  Maybe a better system could be put in place for getting additional resources in place, but overall, I think everyone is doing a spectacular job!

She's baaack!

Hi everybody,

Sorry I haven't posted in months! I saw in my sitemeter report that I had a few nibbles, so thanks for looking even when I wasn't posting. It just became very hard to post on my old desktop with dial up and Windows 98. I know, I know, join this century, would ya? I did --I am writing this on my new Macbook. :-) What have I been doing? Working on the house and working to start my business. The last 10 days however, were spent in customer service hell with a major ISP  while trying to set up my home network. 1 Macbook plus 2 Windows laptops (no desktops!) equals a home network nightmare! Somehow my rotten experience attracted the attention of the CEO (!) and his office called me yesterday morning. They put me on the phone with a very nice very knowledgeable person there and it only took four hours to set up a secure home network. Finally! So, right now I am able to post this while listening to live streaming of Rush Limbaugh. This may be old to some of you, but I am still doing a mental happy dance over this. :-)
Last week, my sister and I had the pleasure of meeting Laura Ingraham on her "Power to the People"  tour. She inscribed my book "Big Families Rule!" when we told we are from a family of ten.  Sorry, can't get the hyperlink manager to work here... What else is going on? Hillary Clinton scares me, I think I am going to be a Fred man. Better Fred than Red (that would be Hillary). All for now! Look for more posts in the near future.

In Which Caroline Stays In The Closet

No, not THAT closet.  You know, the conservative Republican one (it's a big closet!). I ran into the mother of an old friend tonight. I see her occasionally in the grocery store (where she sees me shopping for organic produce so would that make me a lib?!) and I have known for years that they are very liberal (Dad's a college prof, need I say more?), but before tonight, politics never came up. I mentioned that I will be moving to Texas and she told me she was sorry I'd be in the same state as the Bushes. I muttered "Well, I'll be far away". I currently live in the same state as Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer, but I'm still as smart and conservative as I always was. ;-)  Next she asked if I knew how dirty the air there was. Ha! I have lived in So Cal for over 30 years and if the air here hasn't killed me yet, I'm sure the Texas air is just fine.  She then gave me two avenues of enlightenment, one a website called something like "Democracy Now" and one radio conglomerate (although they're libs, so I am sure they don't want to be referred to as a conglomerate!)  that they also have in Texas. One of the websites said something about "Alternative Media is more important than ever now!" Ain't that the truth? Except I don't think they meant Rush Limbaugh and Townhall....  She said the radio conglomerate (?) was founded by artists and journalists who are against war. Oh, okay... because I am an artist, I should be against war? Okay, let me grab my bong and my tie-dye and I'll be right over to the war protest.... NOT!  I make sweet little block print cards that celebrate traditional family life--babies (which most liberals are in favor of killing if they're not convenient), weddings, and I am even working on a card that a portion of the sales will go to Soldiers Angels. And I actually even would like to start some kind of a collective (that's SUCH a communist word)  website for pro-life artists and crafters, because trust me, one does not exist. I currently lurk on a crafter's website where they have things like links to a contest sponsored by Planned Parenthood where you can decorate panties to celebrate "choice". However, they have pretty good info on running a business by yourself if you are selling handmade stuff, so I stick with it.  This post would have been much better with links ( for some reason my computer kept freezing when I tried the link feature--but I'm sure it's the computer, not Townhall!). Anyway, back into my closet, I'll come out of the closet in Texas. :-)

Meaty Michael Moore sets bad example

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has blasted Michael Moore as an example of what is wrong with our healthcare system.

"Frankly, Michael Moore is an example of why the health care system costs so much in this country.
He clearly is one of the reasons that we have a very expensive system"

Huckabee said,  speaking from his own experience after having lost  more than 100 pounds. Maybe Michael Moore could ask Mike Huckabee for some tips, or maybe he could go to his beloved Cuba and go on the government food rationing program, like AP reporter
Anita Snow did. Snow says she lost nine pounds in 30 days. Hint, hint, Mr. Moore.....

Okay Betty, let's all join hands and sing Kumbayah

Irish peace activist Betty Williams has declared she  would like to kill Bush nonviolently. According to her, the Muslim world is suffering terribly. And of course, it's all George W. Bush's fault.... just like poverty, "global warming", healthcare, homelessness, and anything else you can think of. Riiiggghhht!  Okay Betty, let's all join hands and sing "Kumbayah" and all the problems in the Muslim world will go away. The sad fact is that anyone calling themselves a "peace activist" is never going to prevent a war, end a war, or make any meaningful contribution to society. What a dope.

All Play and No Work

Since I escaped from the government cube farm a few weeks ago to prepare for my move to Texas, life has been anything but dull. It started off with a knee injury and a trip to Urgent Care. Maybe a torn miniscus, maybe not. In the meantime, my doc recommended shoes with better arches, which means I got to go buy expensive shoes!  Yay! Nothing warms a girl's heart more than being told to go buy expensive shoes. :-) And water exercise at the Y (which displays the motto "Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women" on their building) in which I am the youngest by a good 20 years!
Then a few days later, as I was walking down the street, I was attacked by an insane ranting homeless woman who shoved me into the street towards traffic. Once I managed to get back on the sidewalk she contiued shoving and pushing and screaming "Ho" at me as I tried to get away. Nice. Can someone please get this woman some proper medication? I couldn't run because of my knee and was forced to call 911 and cower behind a large utility box while waiting for the police. I have no idea what set her off, but it may have been the yelling match she got into with another woman who regularly sits on the side of the road yelling at everyone and everything, whom my brother refers to as "Old Yeller". I was apparently the last in a string of attacks that day. She was eventually picked up by the police.
Last week, my sister and brother in law came to visit. I indulged in some political correctness and hired my male neighbor to come clean my house (because of my knee). It's funny, he and his wife are  quite liberal but he cleans houses so he can be a stay at home dad. One of my brothers (whose identity will be protected here lest he lose some manliness points) states this is ok, because he has to hire girls to kill bugs for him. His girlfriend graciously does this for free, though.
A few highlights from last week. The 4th of July was also my brother in law's b-day. And he is a Texan, how much more American can you get? We watched the same fireworks show that we grew up watching. The little mountain they shoot them off of didn't even catch fire this year, also an annual event around here. One year, there was The Great Flaming Debris Incident, in which my brothers and their friend discovered that watching fireworks from right below the launch site really wasn't all that cool. It was hot, flaming hot....
On Friday night, we went out to the
Redlands Bowl, to watch Celtic Spring, a family of Irish fiddlers and dancers. Mom and Dad play back up band, while the kids fiddle and dance (at the same time!). They are truly truly amazing. If you ever have the chance, go see them! I first saw them on "America's Got Talent" last summer. They are even better in person and it will warm your heart to know that there are families like that. :-)
All this has been in between trying to get ready for our (2 sisters and I) move to Texas. I have been getting rid of stuff like crazy and have probably filled a landfill all by myself by now. I discovered we had a Microwave Pressure Cooker , which both my sisters declared wasn't theirs, because the words "pressure" and "microwave" should never be used together in the same appliance. Likewise the Speed Peeler, anything involving open blades and electricity is probably also a bad idea. It's garage sale time around here.

In Which Joe Biden Tries To Sound Knowledgeable

Hi all,

Should've posted this yesterday, but it's worth repeating. Yesterday,
Hugh Hewitt had a great post on Joe Biden's performance on the Senate floor, in which Biden mixed up "having an epiphany" (a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something) with The Epiphany (which involved wise men, and clearly Biden is not one of them). He declared that Muslims do not have Epiphanies, because that is a Christian thing. Sort of like intelligence is a Biden thing.... You have to wonder how somehow makes it to that age without um, drinking drain cleaner or anything, much less the U.S. Senate!

And congratulations to Hugh on 25 years of wedded bliss and 7 years of radio. :-)

Where Did All the Posts Go or "How Caroline is Technologically Challenged"

Sorry I haven't been posting, and all my posts vanished. I will post a few things later on, hopefully tonight, including tales of what I have been doing this past week, the story of the insane ranting homeless woman, my knee, my thoughts on the "Summorum Pontificum", and Joe Biden.
I apparently have a trigger finger and in the process of deleting a post, I somehow deleted all my posts. A tip--when it says "Delete this post", click once, and once only! Trust me on this. :-)
